The Edge

The Edge Centre is situated on the top of Holme Wood next to the local shops. Recently the centre's facilities have been updated and the Edge Shop as it is known locally has doubled in size. Inside the shop there is an area dedicated to learning and careers guidance, drop in area with pool table, computers and the latest games consoles.

Holme Wood is a large estate situated between the areas of Bowling and Tong in Bradford. Although surrounded by beautiful countryside it is not without its share of challenges. Most young people in Holme Wood experience a level of poverty, unemployment, crime, substance abuse and violence.

Project Ten is the edge's main project with the vision of working with the 'untouchable' young people that are excluded from other youth provision in Holme Wood. Partnering with the local professionals the Edge team get alongside the young people and go on a journey with them in personal development and life changes. This comes in the format of informal education, positive role modelling and day to day mentoring by the Project Ten team. The Edge take an active part in various roles and activities including careers advice, dealing with the consequences of crime, meeting with parents, informal teaching, time management, interview skills and life skills training.

The Edge Team Made up of a full time youth worker and local volunteers also work in local schools running assemblies, after school clubs and lessons. The centre is open during the week for young people to come in to relax over a game of pool or on the play station or to get help and advice from the workers.
